Uvinza Parish
It was entrusted to the Vincentians in 2004 to establish a parish for the Christian minority in a Muslim-majority area. At that time Uvinza was a very interior village without electricity, tarmacked roads or other facilities. People depended on a river for drinking water. Fr. George served in this mission for five years since 2007. Recently the place has developed both materially and spiritually. Now there is a very active parish community, which witnesses Jesus among the non-Christian majority.
Update May 2018
Uvinza grew into a city of 18 thousand inhabitants. Still, people are poor here lacking even drinking water, they take water from the Malagarasi river where hippos and crocodiles live.
